Story
The Mid-Florida Chapter of the American Red Cross is based at 147 Avenue A NW in Winter Haven. It serves more than 800,000 people in Polk, DeSoto, Hardee, Highlands and Okeechobee counties.
Anyone affected by a home fire or another disaster can call 1-800-RED-CROSS at any hour. Service members, veterans and their families can get support with the challenges of military life through a separate line that is available 24 hours a day. The Red Cross also offers training in CPR, first aid, lifeguarding, swimming and water safety.
Tina Sweeten became the chapter's Executive Director in October of 2019. She first got involved with the Red Cross as a young volunteer. Diane Gibbs chairs the chapter's board.
Residents can help the chapter by donating, volunteering or starting an online fundraiser.
