Story
The Tampa Bay Chapter of the American Red Cross works out of its Hillsborough County office on W. Main St. in Tampa. The chapter covers close to 3.2 million people living in Citrus, Hernando, Hillsborough, Manatee, Pasco and Pinellas counties. In addition to the Tampa location, the chapter lists offices at 5744 Missouri Ave. and 818 4th St. N.
People hit by a house fire or another disaster can reach the Red Cross by phone at any hour. Service members who need help have a dedicated line that is also staffed around the clock.
The chapter runs classes in CPR, first aid, lifeguarding, swimming and water safety. Residents can give their time as volunteers or donate to support people affected by disasters of every size, and organizations can ask for the Red Cross to take part in their events.
