Story
Jacksonville businessman John Hall McManus founded the paper in 1912. For about a century it was known as the Financial News & Daily Record. From the start it focused on Duval County and Jacksonville business, law and the courts.
Since 1926 it has been the official newspaper of the Jacksonville Bar Association. For more than 50 years, the 4th Circuit Court of Florida has designated it the official court newspaper of Duval County.
Three generations of the McManus family built the paper. His son-in-law James Bailey followed him as publisher, and in 1974 Bailey handed the business to his son, James Bailey Jr. In 2017 Bailey Jr. sold the Daily Record to Matt Walsh, owner of the Sarasota-based Observer Media Group. The paper then dropped "Financial News" from its name.
