Story

The News-Leader is Florida's oldest continually published weekly newspaper. It was founded by Senator David L. Yulee, and its first issue came out on August 9, 1854.

Over the years the paper has served as the historical record-keeper of the area. It remains the only newspaper and website devoted exclusively to local issues and events in the communities it serves. It describes itself as the community's guide dog and a watchdog over the governments that serve it.

The News-Leader has won numerous awards for journalism and advertising. The Florida Press Association has recognized it as the "Best Weekly Newspaper" in Florida.
