Florida Phoenix

Florida Phoenix is a nonprofit, online-only news site covering Florida state government, policy and politics. It carries no advertising, and all of its content is free to read.

The newsroom is a team of five journalists based at the Florida Press Center in downtown Tallahassee. The Phoenix focuses on stories that shrinking capital bureaus often lack the time for: new ideas, and the people working to solve problems and change policy.

Part of States Newsroom

The Phoenix is an affiliate of States Newsroom, the largest state-focused nonprofit news organization in the US, which is funded by grants and donations. The Phoenix keeps full editorial independence.

• Michael Moline, Editor-in-Chief, has covered politics and the legal system for more than 30 years

• Mitch Perry, Reporter, based in St. Petersburg
• Jay Waagmeester, Reporter, covers education
