Story
The Straz Center in downtown Tampa, formerly known as the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center, opened in July 1987 and has since welcomed nearly 16 million guests.
The 335,000-square-foot complex sits on a nine-acre site along the Tampa Riverwalk.
It has five theaters: Morsani Hall with 2,610 seats, Ferguson Hall with 1,042, the Jaeb Theater with 312, the TECO Theater with 250 and the Shimberg Playhouse with 130, plus the outdoor Riverwalk Stage.
The campus also includes a rehearsal hall, three on-site restaurants, a coffee shop, and banquet space.
Its programming covers a Broadway series, grand opera productions and many kinds of concerts and performances, and in a typical season more than 600,000 patrons attend 1,500+ events.
The Patel Conservatory, added in 2004, gave the center 45,000 more square feet for arts education, with 20 studios, three of them dance studios with sprung floors, as well as a black box theater.
Straz Center Arts Education serves nearly 65,000 students each year, both on campus and off.
