Story

Asolo Repertory Theatre is a theatre company in Sarasota whose name comes from the town of Asolo in Italy.

In 1965 the company was designated Florida's first State Theatre, and in 1966 it became a founding member of the League of Resident Theatres (LORT).

In December 1989 Asolo Rep relocated to the then-new FSU Center for the Performing Arts.

There, the Mertz Theatre was created from the Dunfermline Opera House, which was bought in Scotland and rebuilt inside the center.

The company also works with the FSU School of Theatre through the FSU/Asolo Conservatory for Actor Training.

Its season is split between Main Stage and Second Stage productions, and subscribers can see eight shows with priority seating and flexible ticket exchanges.

Education and engagement activities include Asolo Rep On Tour, youth and adult programs and student matinee performances.
