Story

The Arc Nature Coast was founded in 1972 by a small group of citizens who saw that adults with developmental disabilities had few services or activities available. That same year the group acquired 30 wooded acres along Neff Lake Road, and services have been provided from that site ever since.

The nonprofit advocates for and serves individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families. Its services span education, outreach, advocacy, family support, skills training, employment, residential living, and transportation. Each year it works with over 230 people and their families, operating out of 17 staffed sites. Its community support team approach is designed to deliver highly individualized support aimed at the best possible personal outcomes.

Since 1972 the organization has been an affiliate of The Arc of the United States and is one of 33 local Arc chapters in Florida. It is a private 501(c)(3) charitable organization led by a local volunteer board. Its yearly operating budget exceeds 5.0 million dollars. The organization serves Hernando, Pasco, and Sumter counties.
