Story
American Clothing Exchange, Inc., also known as Amclex, is a clothing and textile recycler in Miami. The company works with textile and clothing manufacturers to cut waste and to send garments to people in need worldwide. It gathers used clothing and textile products, sorts them and sends them on to the places that need them most.
More than 500 employees sort, grade and ship clothing at the company's facility. Amclex says its partners and staff reduce landfill waste by as much as 4 billion pounds.
Textile, fabric and clothing companies with unused materials can become partners, so their byproducts are reused rather than thrown away. Individuals can also bring their used clothing to the Miami location through the company's drop-off program. To serve its suppliers, Amclex also keeps a regional satellite warehouse in South Carolina.
The company is headed by CEO Stuart Tromberg, a graduate of the Fashion Institute of Technology.
