Story
Florida Kimono is a statewide community for everyone with a love of kimono. It welcomes collectors, sellers, educators and artists, as well as people who are simply curious.
Its goal is to help kimono wearing fit naturally into Florida's lifestyle, climate and culture. Rather than acting as one local club, school or business, the project aims to bring both kimono sellers and enthusiasts into a single network covering the whole state. It also works to keep a living directory and archive of Japanese culture in Florida.
The community calendar lists kimono gatherings, festivals and meetups across the state, hosted by members and partner organizations. Visitors can find the next event and reach its organizer directly, and anyone can submit an event of their own.
The site also shares guidance on kitsuke, the art of dressing in kimono. That includes adapting seasonal dress to the local climate, with lighter, breathable garments for Florida's long summers.
