Story

You Thrive Florida was started in Brooksville in 1968 within the nationwide network of Community Action Agencies, which grew out of the anti-poverty effort of the 1964 Economic Opportunity Act. Over the years it grew and reshaped its mission, and it now works outside the Community Action framework, helping people of every income level build their capacity to thrive.

The organization is a mid-sized 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Its core funding consists of grants passed through from federal and state sources, and its long-term work is backed by local donors, partnerships, in-kind gifts, community fundraising, and volunteers. Its mission is to offer services and opportunities that change lives and help individuals and families thrive.

Programs include early learning programs, community assistance, the House to Home program, paratransit, senior services, and the Children's Advocacy Center. Services reach communities in Hernando, Citrus, Lake, Sumter, Volusia, Hillsborough, and Polk counties. The main office is at 820 Kennedy Blvd. in Brooksville.
