Story
Calhoun Liberty Hospital in Blountstown has cared for its community since 1961 and remains the sole hospital inside a 35-mile radius. It operates on a nonprofit basis as a 12-bed Critical Access Hospital.
In 2018, Hurricane Michael severely damaged the original building. Even so, the hospital kept its doors open and continued caring for patients. Its next chapter centers on a new 50,000-square-foot hospital facility.
Patients can get 24-hour emergency care here, along with inpatient services, a primary care clinic, cardiovascular care, laboratory testing, mammography, radiology, infusion therapy, respiratory care and short-term transitional rehab. Its patients come from Jackson, Gulf, Liberty and Calhoun counties.
The Chartis Center for Rural Health has recognized the hospital in its national ranking of Top 100 Critical Access Hospitals. The hospital is an affiliate of Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare and holds accreditation from AHCA.
