Story

George E. Weems Memorial Hospital was founded in 1959 as a not-for-profit community health care facility. Covering the area between Alligator Point and Apalachicola in Franklin County, it operates 25 beds as a critical access hospital.

Board-certified physicians with residency training staff the hospital at all hours. The doctors who work in the ER also act as hospitalists for admitted patients. Emergency care is available around the clock every day, and the ER can draw directly on the radiology, laboratory and respiratory teams.

Short-term inpatient rehab combines physical, speech and occupational therapy with nursing care available 24 hours a day. Outpatient lab, imaging and respiratory services run on weekdays between 8:00am and 4:30pm in the main hospital building. Mammography is available locally as well.

The hospital also operates two medical offices, in Apalachicola and in Carrabelle, offering family medicine, primary care and specialty care on a rotating schedule.
