The Tampa-born commentator whose flat, unhurried voice became one of the most recognizable sounds on the internet

There is a particular kind of fame that arrives without raising its voice. Charles "Charlie" White Jr. — better known online as penguinz0 or MoistCr1TiKaL — built one of YouTube's largest audiences by speaking about the internet's daily absurdities in a tone so level it borders on the geological. The joke, more often than not, is in what he refuses to get excited about.

A Tampa Kid With a Camera

White was born in Tampa on August 2, 1994. He played varsity basketball at Carrollwood Day School and went on to the University of Tampa, where he earned a bachelor's degree in human sciences with a focus on exercise physiology. By then he had been making videos for years: he began uploading in 2006, mostly anime clips and gaming music videos, and opened the penguinz0 channel in May 2007, at age twelve.

The Deadpan Voice

Around 2015, White turned his attention to the internet itself — its scandals, platforms and policies — and found his form. His commentary videos, often sharply critical of YouTube, drew notice from the press, and his delivery became a signature: dry, patient, faintly incredulous. Not everything was critique. In 2018 he filled a room with 5,400 plastic balls for his husky, Tetra, and the video went viral around the world.

From Chess Board to Business

White began streaming on Twitch in 2018, and in 2020 his audience surged. In Chess.com's first PogChamps tournament he defeated fellow streamer xQc in six moves; the clip became one of the most-watched in Twitch history. That autumn he played Among Us on stream with Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

The fame became a portfolio. He co-founded the esports team Moist Esports in 2021 and, in 2025, became a co-owner of Shopify Rebellion alongside streamer Ludwig Ahgren. He co-owns Mana Talent Agency, wrote the graphic novel series GODSLAP — an animated film adaptation was announced in September 2026 — and performs in the musical duo the Gentle Men, whose debut album appeared in 2021. He has also lent his voice to video games and anime dubs.

Recognition

White won Best Variety Streamer at the 2021 Streamer Awards, a Streamy Award for commentary in 2023, and Content Creator of the Year at The Game Awards in 2025. As of September 2026 his main YouTube channel had more than 18 million subscribers and nearly 14 billion views — a remarkable audience for a man who has made understatement his entire style.
